It’s Allergy Season!

August 23, 2023

This spring could be one of the worst allergy seasons ever in Kansas City. According to the Kansas City Star, pollen counts have already exceeded 700 particles per cubic meter of air—the normal amount is 50-60 particles! It is likely that many people in the area will seek solace in the comfort of their homes. However, the air inside your home can be even worse. The Environmental protection agency states, “…indoor levels of pollutants may be 2 to 5 times – and occasionally more than 100 times – higher than outdoor pollutant levels. Indoor air pollutants have been ranked among the top five environmental risks to public health.” This is alarming news since most Americans spend up to 90% of their time indoors, especially in the winter. Some common causes of indoor pollutants include gas, oil, cleaning chemicals, dust, mold, and many others.

In order to protect your home against the harsh Spring allergies it is important to make sure you reduce the particles and allergens in the air. There are three easy ways to ensure your home’s air is clean:

  1. Upgrade your HVAC system’s filter. Using the most basic and inexpensive filter won’t trap all of the allergens in your system but upgrading to a polarized air filter will trap 99% of the particles in your home.
  2. Install an UltraViolet light on your system’s coil. This technology mimics the sun’s ability to control the foreign agents in the air.
  3. In order to eliminate allergens and particles efficiently, you can install a whole home air purification system.
